Heiki Riipinen (1990) holds a BA in Acting from the Norwegian Theatre Academy (2015), and a MA in Directing from The National Danish School of Performing Arts (2023).
Heiki deals with theatre as an expanded practice, fluctuating between working as a director, actor, writer, dramaturge, costume designer, drag queen, curator, lecturer and teacher. His performances make use of the theatre as a space to meet, the challenge of co-existence as the central drama, and togetherness as aesthetic experience. Through fiction and speculation he raises questions in regards to power, norms, gender, sexuality, social identity and group-thinking. His aim is to make existential-experimental-entertainment.
His work has been presented at stages such as Münchner Kammerspiele (DE), Thalia Theater (DE) and Black Box Teater (NO), and at festivals like Copenhagen Stage (DK), Donaufestival (AT) and GogolFest (UKR). As a member of the collective by Proxy has been the artistic director of Teater Momentum (DK) and house-artist at Teater Freiburg (DE). Their production «Stop Being Poor» won the jury-prize at Korber Studio Junge Regie in 2015.
Heiki also works with other collectives such as Building Conversation (HOL), Ariel Efraim Ashbel and Friends (DE) and CUNTS collective (DK/BRA). For several years he have collaborated with Grenland Friteater (NO) where he participated in projects like «Stedsans» (2010, 2018, 2021), and played the lead in shows like «KAOS» (2007) and «Verdas Søtaste Turist» (2017).
Heiki is part of ArtEx, Talent Norways program for excellent talents in 2021-2023. In 2023 he is also the city artist in Skien, Norway, where he will inhabit the home of Henrik Ibsen.
Heiki is a resident director at Berliner Ensemble for the 23/24-season.
